Please have a look at Directory Listings Basics 1,2. Both are guides with helpful pointers on submitting to free directory listings, as well as which pitfalls to look out for in the process.
The following is a list of free directory listings that I have taken the time to manually submit to. Over the next few weeks, my submission experience will be detailed for each directory in my list. This report will include the following:
1. What is required to submit to free directory listings . 2. The time it takes for a free directory listing to provide a response upon receiving a submission. 3. If a submission is rejected, does the directory clearly explain the reason? 4. How clear is the procedure to submit a link? Are there any bumps in the submission process? 5. Are deep links accepted? 6. Does the directory friendly to all sites, including start-ups? 7. What is the Google Page Rank and Alex number? 8. Are reciprocal links required for submission?
I will be providing an evaluation of all the free directory listings (in my list) based on the above criteria. Hopefully, this will be helpful for users of my site in determining quality sites to submit to. As you know there are many free directory listings and I have received varying degrees of service from the respective listings. Term Definitions
Reciprocal Link: Is a reciprocal or partner link required?
Service: In general, what is the level of service for the site. Are emails answered on time by staff etc?
The value ranges from 1-5, 5 being very service oriented
PR: Google page strength value. The value ranges from 0-10, 10 being the best.
Register:Are you required to register or submit an email address?
Time Frame: Time taken to review submission. This can be any value or Unkown.
Deep Links: Does the directory allow submission of interior pages (Deep Linking)?
Alexa #: Alexa Traffic Rank for this site.
User Friendly: How easy is it to submit? Will the user have problems finding his way around or submitting? The value ranges from 1-5, 5 being the most user friendly.
Layout: Is the website just a collection of links? Does it have a blog, useful tools or other sources of information?
